Lures, Gear, and other random things

At the Liverpool Antiquefest, I got a nice little piece of local history. For $5, I got a very dirty Cortland Pro Crest fly reel made right here in Cortland, NY in the late 60's, early 70's. I cleaned it with gun cleaning solvent and sanded it, and it looks pretty sharp.

I've taken up a collection of postcards of local bodies of water and fishing. I find looking at old  fishing pictures of familiar places very intriguing.

"Uncle" Homer Circle

There are a lot videos on YouTube on fishing instruction but I've found that most lack the wisdom of many years of fishing without the use of modern lures. Most videos seem to be pros or people who have found what works for them. There are many useful videos on YouTube but what "Uncle" Homer gives you is fundamental knowledge of fishing that comes from years of studying fish. He lived to be 97 and when you watch his videos, it is clear he had a good life. Despite his legendary status in the fishing world, it is hard to find his videos. You either pay $60 for them new directly from the publisher or wait for someone to give up their own on ebay.  For a preview of his panfish video, follow this link:      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K03VKzaL08k

Fishing Hot Spots Maps

These maps range from $8-$12, are waterproof, and include great information on area lakes including where to fish, what to fish for, and what gear to use. The maps also include water depths and shore and boat access information. Almost any bait shop sells them or you can buy them online.
